1A - Metaphors for 21st Century (M21C)
The Metaphors for 21st Century logo background is a blue sky over smooth water with thunder storms on the horizon. The smooth water represents an ideal vision the world where the most beautiful hot air balloon business plans are envisioned.  The storm clouds represent the imperfect world where unknown factors come to blow the most beautiful hot air balloon business plans off course.

The yellow starburst represents the many facets of a business, paradigm, concept, etc.  M21C has identified a variety of facets which are explored in more detail in this website.  Inside the starburst is an eight pronged Carolina Snowflake which depicts an 8 petal-facet view.  I found the Carolina Snowflake in a craft shop on the Blue Ridge Parkway and found it to be a nice vehicle for discussing some of the M21C metaphors.  You can find instructions on how to make one at http://www.basketsofjoy.com/carolina-snowflake.aspx ; it was created by by Billie Ruth Sudduth.  The Carolina Snowflake is ideal for discussing the eight facets or petals of ISCORPIO described in 4C.

Many promote the concept of thinking outside the box, but as I think about it you need to think inside and outside the box for a more complete view of the world.   Destination Imagination http://www.destinationimagination.org/ has a nice logo showing this.

Using Venn diagrams are a good way to think about inside and outside transitions see 5B, Focus on Partners Venn Diagram.
